Well... at least I'm writing
I’m currently in the midst of struggling to find a job; it’s mentally exhausting. Besides the misery of that there has been some good writing news:
- I got the cover story for the current PQ Monthly. I interviewed the leaders of Queer Intersections Portland, an organization supporting queer and trans youth of color in Portland run by queer and trans youth of color. These folks are inspiring, trying to support some of the most marginalized groups in one of the whitest cities in America. You can read that story here.
- PQ has revived its podcast PQ Mouthy and I’m hosting it with my fellow PQ writer Leela Ginelle. In this episode Leela and I talk about our respective stories from the print edition, the white/cis washing of Stonewall that’s happening with the new movie about Stonewall and the intersection of race and LGBTQ identity. You can find the podcast here. Please listen, once it takes off and I achieve my millennial dream of being a podcaster I’m sure everything in my life will fall into place.
- I got to do a reading at Reading Frenzy last week. My friend Martha was invited to read from her latest zine for Print Fancy and since I co-wrote the zine with her I got to read too.
- I got my writing group back together. Despite all the free time I had in China I was not very productive, I realized I need a community to support me.
