Wordstock wrap up

Wordstock wrap up

I had my wisdom teeth out on Tuesday so I spent most of this week taking Vicodin and lying down.

Anyway, last weekend was a big weekend for the Portland literary scene. The first ever LitHop (a literary bar crawl modeled after LitQuake in San Francisco) happened on Wednesday I ended up at Sewick’s Lounge to see my friends Martha and Michael read. It wasn't an ideal venue for a reading (the acoustics weren't great and there was loud woman on the slot machines behind me who kept meowing) but it was a relaxed atmosphere. On Saturday tabled at Wordstock for most of the day and managed to see a panel with Craig Thompson (who wrote the graphic novels Blankets and Habibi) and Gene Luen Yang (American Born Chinese and the upcoming Boxers & Saints). The two are actually friends so the conversation seemed to flow back and forth nicely as they discussed each others works.

Side-note: There is a trailer for Boxers & Saints:

It's nice to remember that I live in a city with a vibrant literary scene.

I also won first prize in a costume contest last weekend (with an admittedly hastily thrown together costume).
